Fraudulent Jazz – Out October

It’s been a long journey to get this album ready for release. But very soon the internet will be fully stocked with the debut LP from the Swiss. For some time now the new material has been popping up on all the relevant media-players and has recently been earning some radio airplay. Then there have been gigs to prepare people for the release. So these tunes have been earning their place.

The process to create the album began well over a year ago as Simon and Steve set about the task of writing more and more material for the trio to be playing. Pretty soon we realised we had a collection of really great material that sat well with one another and wondered about doing an album.

This was a big thought to be having since the debut EP – Souvenir – never received a proper release and an LP was going to require a little more love and nuture to encourage it out of the nest. In November of 2008, the Swiss headed to Realworld studios to meet with Marco Migliari and talk about the record. This pre-production date was an opportunity to hone the tunes into glorious compositions that would fulfill the mandate presented by recording an LP.

It was never going to be a case of collecting ten tunes together and hoping that they would work on a record. There was no possibility of choosing the ‘hits’, either, since audiences had heard very little of the new material.

So it was down to decisions made at the pre-production stage, slight re-arrangements of tunes and fresh ideas inputted by the fresh ears of the producer. Some weeks later, the trio returned to Realworld and spent 4 days recording the album. There were full live takes, overdubs, re-takes at different tempos and long-drawn out evenings as every bar was scrutinised for its full musical contribution to the overall LP.

The next stage was to get this mixed; Marco genuinely captured the identity of the group in sound. Deep round tones, flowing melodies, punchy rhythms and grand inter-weaving textures are not only present but eagerly jockeying for position across the aural landscape. Fraudulent Jazz is a very exciting record to listen to.

On the advice of Mr Migliari, the record was sent to Shawn Joseph at Optimum Mastering, Bristol for the final mastering polish to be applied. Artwork was created by Pete Smart of Roam Design – if Marco had captured the identity of the band in sound, Pete managed it in image. The cover art is a sight to behold.

And now it’s time to wait patiently as the printers do their bit in this trail of initial spark of inspiration to hard-copy product.

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for all the latest news regarding the release of this fantastic record. There will be launch gigs. There will be special offers and orders. Keep it locked to the website, the myspace, the facebook, the twitter, the whatever – pretty soon the whole internet could be buzzing about this rugged gem!
